BCBG Max Azria Spring 2011

This is for those of you have been reading the articles by "fashionista" Blair Fowler on mariclaire.com. If you are like me, you were greatly dissapointed in her inability to clearly describe the show in general and found her attempt, to say the least, subpar. She mostly just talked about the "blah" music and how she saw Ashlee Simpson ("OMG"). I mean, Ashley Simpson? Really? For those of you who don't know Blair, she is a youtube beauty guru who goes by the name of Juicystar07. She makes videos of makeup tutorials and shopping hauls. Personally, I don't think haing an insane amount of MAC makeup and thinking that Forever 21 is heaven qualifies anyone to write about Fashion Week. Before I go any further I want to make one thing clear: I do not have anything against Balir as a person. I don't know her and therefore I have no criteria with which to judge her on. However, what I do know is that she was selected out of the millions of qualified fashion bloggers who would have done a far superior job. Also, I am in NO WAY saying that this is me. I just want to write what Blair should have. Now on to the review...

The show begins and the audience is quickly transported from chaotic New York City to a serene and peacful Island isolated from the world. The first garment to grace the runway is a white, Vneck, two tiered tank dress that just barely sweeps the floor as the model glides down the runway. The following garments are the same flowly material but in different constuctions: shorter, strapless, one shoulder, a t-shirt dress. Many are also adorned with a beautiful white chiffon fabric that acts as a neutral accent. Then begins the array of sand colored sun dresses that remind the audience of the sand in this serene island they are currently inhabiting. Just when they've fallen in love with sandy rompers and maxi dresses, the audience sees the pastel blue numbers only strengthening the calm enviornment. These soothing garments begin a slight transition with their patterns and even a few beaded dresess into the two tone tans and the tranquil yellows. At this point it is almost a shock to the system to see a bright coral on the runway. But almost as quickly as it came, it is gone and in its place are black garments. To me, the coral is the climax of the island gettaway, the point of complete and utter happiness. The balck represents how sad one is to retun home but the impact of this trip will never be forgotten. And with that, the models make one last trip around the runway reminding everyone how incredibly wonderful this experience has been.

I think that Max Azria was taking this fall's trend of minimalism and transitioning it into the spring and summer. Taking a similar color palette, he added flowly fabrics and new sillouhettes to correlate with spring and the dream getaway. Overall, this collection was beautiful, serene, and the work of a mastermind.

Bewitching, Isn't It?

Well from this very obvious title, you may have guessed that I'm about to talk about Bewitched. No not the movie with Will Ferrel and Nicole Kidman that apparently stank on ice (according to Lorelai Gilmore) but the beloved classic television series. While I was browsing the DVD section of Target, I came across the deal of a lifetime: Bewitched seasons one and two for only twenty dollars. Woah now that's just crazy talk. Now I had never seen this show before. I think that's because as a kid my mom thought that witchcraft was evil and the devil and blah blah blah so i wasn't allowed to watch this show, be a witch for Halloween, etc. Actually as a kid, I saw the first Harry Potter movie and had to read the books. My mom was not to thrilled about this and said she would never allow those movies in her house but would allow me to read the books. Today, we own all of the movies and books and my mother is in love with the Harry Potter series. In fact, we plan to go to Harry Potter World this fall. So back to Bewitched. I first started the series thinking it was just a kids show about a witch. You know similar to Sabrina. It was in a way similar but honestly there was just something different about it. One thing I love about the show are the horrid special effects. Most of the times you can see the string carrying the magical floating object and any vanishing acts look a little off. These effects make me laugh as well as realize how far our world has come technologically. But that's a whole other story. No there was one attribute to this show that really stood out to me. You guessed it: the clothes. Samantha's (Elizabeth Montgomery) wardrobes completely reflects the vibe of the 60s. Her hair, beyond adorable jackets, and my favorite, her signature diamond heart necklace. She is so elegant and graceful and just everyone idea of the perfect wife/mother. The exact opposite of her mother, Endora (Agnes Moorehead. With her floor length purple dress, green shawl/cape, and up-to-the-brow bone blue eyeshadow, one could say Endora is the most eccentric character when it comes to dress. To me this show embodies the style of the 60s and will continue to be one of the most beloved television shows of all time. Before I post pretty picture that describe everything I just talked about, I want to say a few more things about the show itself. My favorite characters are definitely Abner and Gladys Kravitz. They are hysterical in my opinion. Gladys seems like such a nutcase to Abner even though she is exactly right. But I'm not a huge fan of Darren. Why won't he left Samantha use magic? I mean she's just going to do it anyway. And if I had powers I sure as heck would use them! So I'm currently in the middle of the second season and Darren and Samantha have just given birth to Tabitha. I'm excited about this new addition and she better be a witch. That would be hackin sweet. So I'm not very far along in the series so I don't know if there will be anymore fashion savvy characters popping up anytime soon. But obviously I'll be on the lookout. Oh and sorry for the lack of posts. I've been very busy. :)

It's New to Me

Rather than bore you with a long narative about why the 1970s is my newest obssession, I'm going to just jump right into the photos. It's late and I'm at a loss for words. But the70s are my newest obssession and as a teenager, I obviously missed this whole generation. I wish I hadn't because I'm in love with the crazy colors and just the whole vibe. I love it!
